What Is the Clean Heat Standard in MA?

What Is the Clean Heat Standard in MA?

If you live in Massachusetts, then you’ve probably heard the news about the new Clean Heat Standard coming from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MA DEP). The Clean Heat Standard seeks to electrify home heating. As the bill is currently written, it could have substantial financial impacts on both homeowners and business owners and put MA residents at a no-heat risk during our frigid winters if the electric grid were to fail. The Clean Heat Standard would limit energy choices for homeowners, encourage expensive electrification over the use of commercially available fuels, and require massive heating equipment conversions. If enacted, the law would have other far-reaching consequences that would create an incredible strain on MA residents throughout the state.

Homeowners Should Choose How They Heat Their Homes

At Noonan, we believe customers should have a say in how they heat their homes! We’re doing our part to promote a cleaner Massachusetts with Bioheat® fuel, a renewable, low-carbon fuel. Working toward cleaner-burning blends of this more environmentally friendly fuel is the fastest and most cost-effective way to help our state meet its clean environment goals. By using biofuels in heating systems in our homes, we can reduce our dependence on finite fuel resources and further promote the utilization of renewable energy sources.

The Benefits of Bioheat® Fuel

Bioheat® fuel is low carbon, right now.

Bioheat® fuel has a lower carbon footprint compared to conventional heating oil. In addition, it will continuously lower its carbon content over time as blend percentages increase. The biofuels used in the blend typically emit fewer greenhouse gas emissions during combustion.

Bioheat® fuel is ready, available, and affordable.

Bioheat® fuel is abundant in the United States. And the best part? Bioheat® fuel is a cost-effective solution for everyone involved. The fuel doesn’t require expensive conversions and can be used in existing systems at no additional cost. This compatibility allows for an easier transition to a sustainable energy source without substantial upfront costs.

Bioheat® fuel will reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

On top of Bioheat® fuel’s current low-carbon status, the industry has concrete plans to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. There is an actionable plan in place to help fast-track Bioheat® fuel to become even better than it already is for our environment.

Don’t Let the MA DEP Make This Decision for You

How you choose to heat your home should be completely up to you, and you should have a range of options to choose from. Don’t let the MA DEP force you into adopting an energy source that is unreliable, unreasonable, irresponsible, and extremely expensive. Let your representatives know today that you want to choose how you heat your home.
